First using any langauge you are not used to is difficult. However, if you are an experienced vb developer the code is easy to maintain. C, C++, and VB preceed Java, Javascript and just becasue they where modiled after C/C++ doesn't mean VB is a bad langauge. I started my career in C then C++. I currently program in VB.NET and C#. I personally find VB easy to read.

Programing does suck. This has been a 22 year ride and I am sick of dealing with idiots, sick of un-realistice deadlines, sick of the ever changing languages, sick of not having the time or encouragement to learn to use the new languages and practices due to the un-realistic deadlines. I am also sick of dedicating myself to a company for all of the deadlines, after hours support and then getting blind sided by layoffs. Five layoffs in 22 years. If I had the time to think and find another job that would pay the bills, I would leave programing today. I should have been a dentist or a chiropractor. They have are called doctor, they make good money, AND they are not on call. Let the Indians and the youngsters have programming. Anyone have a ditch to be dug? Oh, and yes I hunt. Good day.

I'd like to add, the idea that programming is temporal is nonsense, I've managed to pick up in literally 2-3 weeks at work every new piece of technology to do web applications END TO END i.e. (this is SQL, CSS, HTML, XHTML, XSLT, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#.NET, tiny bit of Python and PHP to boot) but my background was a master degree in Advanced CS with assembly knowledge and (C++, Java,FORTRAN,Euporia,VB6).

I think we are the luckiest people around, we ACTUALLY get paid for what we love doing!

the funniest part is companies chase us to give us jobs not the other way round, in how many other professionals does that happen?

Bob, The SAS quirk that is bothering me is that I have a popup box from MS Outlook that asks for "my permission" to let "A program <that is> trying to automatically send...". I seem to recall that there were some commands I could put in my Data _null_ step to automate this response (instead of me having to click YES. Have you already solved this issue? Thanks!!

I got an extra icon for iis in my add/remove windows components list, but this icon has no name!

it is supposed to have the name (internet information service (iis)).. but this is not what i got :(
